Mixed martial arts (MMA), is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and has gained mainstream recognition by the American based promotional company, ‘Ultimate Fighting Championship’ (UFC). An MMA competition consists of two combatants fighting with very limited rules. Punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, chokes, arm bars, leg locks and other submissions are all allowed. This class provides the training for NHB competition or for those who want a realistic training environment.

MMA is a blending of various standing and striking techniques such as Boxing and Muay Thai, as well as ground fighting techniques from judo, jiu-jitsu and wrestling, MMA utilizes a vast array of combative techniques to K.O or cause an opponent to submit.

Not every member of Masson's Academy will become a fighter. There are training options for those that wish to compete in the Octagon cage or boxing ring and there are also options for those that enjoy the fighter’s training regimen for self-defense, fitness, fun, hobby and social reasons.

The training intensity is up to the individual to decide. For those that wish to become fighters the training will be high intensity and rigorous in order to prepare for the challenge when stepping inside the cage. Others that don’t fight will often train at a lower intensity. Safety is a key issue. If our members get injured, they can’t train. We take every possible precaution to minimize injuries. It’s counterproductive to practice martial arts if you’re always too injured to actively participate.
