Rivas has fought on both promotions’ cards this year

Former Colombian Olympian Oscar Rivas has reportedly received offers from both Top Rank and Matchroom Boxing, one of whom would co-promote him alongside current promoter Yvon Michel.

The Top Rank interest isn’t surprising; Rivas (26-1, 18 KO) had his breakout win on one of their cards, a 12th-round knockout of Bryant Jennings in January. Eddie Hearn and co. might have a tougher sell, though; Rivas is still embroiled in controversy over Dillian Whyte failing a drug test ahead of their July bout. Rivas and his team allege that they weren’t informed of the result before fight night and had filed a protest over pre-fight gloving issues.

Top Rank also sweetened the pot with a Tyson Fury fight; “The Gypsy King” had previously rejected Rivas in favor of Tom Schwarz earlier this year. Matchroom might have to offer one hell of a mea culpa to land “Kaboom.”

TR’s heavyweight stable being what it is, Rivas would probably be the best opponent they could offer him besides free agents like Deontay Wilder. Then again, it would suck for another talented heavyweight to get stuck in Top Rank limbo.
