Brandon Jenkins wants credit for Mike Perry finish, eager for rematch

UFC veteran Brandon Jenkins pulled off a stunner on short notice against Mike Perry and is eager to run it back.

Jenkins (18-11) filled in for Dillon Danis to face Perry in the main event of Duel Arena 1, which went down at Kia Center in Orlando, Fla. It was an interesting opportunity for Jenkins, considering he revealed that he was matched up with Danis twice this year, but both fights fell through. Jenkins filled in, and finished Perry in the first round after Perry's shoulder became dislocated.

Jenkins wants credit for causing the finishing sequence, and doesn't want it to be looked at as a freak injury.

"He never threw a punch that uncorked his shoulder," Jenkins told MMA Junkie Radio. "So, everybody watches this 15-second clip from Duel Arena or whatever. If you watch the fight, I'm popping him with right hands, spinning elbows. He has a collar tie, and he's uppercutting me. I left-elbow him, and the arm that is on my head, him collar-tying me, blows out. ... I land the last strike on his head, and his shoulder pops out.

"They're trying to paint this picture of me, just trying to discredit what I did. I covered up from all the uppercuts, and I left-elbowed him; then his shoulder came out. So, I dislocated his shoulder. I followed up with malicious intent, and I don't feel bad about it at all."

Jenkins said he even saw a few doctors on social media review the moment Perry's shoulder went out and confirmed that the impact from his elbow caused Perry's shoulder to come out of place. In the aftermath of pulling off the upset, Jenkins has been hit with negative commentary from MMA fans on social media, which he doesn't understand.

"It's just wild to me people are just super disrespectful for no reason, because all I do is I show up, and I try my best – and I smile, and I get real bloody for everybody," Jenkins said. "I'm sure there's a hardcore part of the fanbase that appreciates my style."

Moving forward, Jenkins wants to run it back with Perry as soon as possible. While the Duel Arena 1 fight took place at middleweight, Jenkins hopes a rematch can take place at welterweight, and preferably under the MVP MMA banner.

"I would like to do the Mike Perry rematch, but I don't know how long shoulders take to heal," Jenkins said. "I'm hearing sometimes it's six months to a year. I know that MVP is supposed to come back in like January-ish. Like, December, January. Maybe Mike will be healed up enough for that – or Nate Diaz. I really wanted the Nate Diaz fight, because I beat up his best friend (Chris Avila), and I'm surprised he didn't want to get it back."
