UFC has the Gall to book cop vs. felon to save UFC Vegas 121 fight card

Mickey Gall is out of this weekend’s UFC Vegas 121 fight card in Las Vegas.

Replacing him will be Luis Hernandez, fresh off his “Contender Series” victory earlier this month at APEX. Last-minute cancelations are not uncommon these days, but this one is getting extra attention because Hernandez is also a deputy with Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Opponent Sedriques Dumas is a convicted felon.

Not surprisingly, fans on social media are having a field day with the announcement, accusing matchmakers of purposely booking this showdown based on the respective backgrounds of each fighter. Possible, but it’s also possible “The Stache” was the only available combatant.

Their contest will take place in the light heavyweight division to account for the short notice.

The 30-year-old Hernandez is 8-0 in his MMA career with all eight contests ending by way of knockout or submission, though he’s yet to log a single fight under the UFC banner. As for Dumas, 31, he dropped to 10-5 (1 NC) after getting subbed by Jackson McVey at UFC Vegas 116.
