Diego Sanchez handed prison sentence for probation violation
Diego Sanchez has been handed a month-long prison sentence for violating his probation.
The UFC alum will spend 30 days behind bars for violating the terms of his probation. Judge Stan Whitaker of New Mexico’s 2nd Judicial District Court told the 44-year-old his fate on Wednesday. The original ruling occurred earlier this year; Sanchez was sentenced to five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to felony charges: shooting a gun from a moving vehicle in 2025. A strict condition Sanchez was forced to follow was completely abstaining from alcohol, but those conditions weren’t met.
Just last month, Diego Sanchez was arrested at a gas station in Socorro County, New Mexico. Officers on the scene used a breath test to discover Sanchez’s blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit. After revealing the amount of alcohol Sanchez consumed, he was denied bond and kept behind bars for his probation breach.
Fast forward to Wednesday, October 7. Because it was his first official probation violation, Judge Stan Whitaker opted for a 30-day jail sanction rather than triggering Sanchez’s full suspended sentence.
The hard work begins now for Sanchez. Once his prison sentence is complete, he must adhere to a mandatory inpatient rehab program, alongside counseling for his mental health. Should Sanchez make a further mistake and breach his probation once again, it will result in him serving the remainder of his suspended sentence: a possible six and a half years in prison.
Diego Sanchez has had a saddening downfall since the latter stages and retirement from mixed martial arts. Sanchez has been troubled outside of the cage and has mixed with the wrong characters, resulting in his fall from grace.
Sanchez will forever be remembered by MMA fans as The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner and for his willingness to throw himself into a fire fight during his best years inside the octagon.
